British media reports revealed on July 29, 2025, that the UK government is preparing to officially recognize the State of Palestine before the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September, if Israel does not halt its ongoing military offensive on the Gaza Strip.
According to Reuters, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer informed his cabinet that the decision would be contingent upon “concrete” Israeli actions, including a ceasefire in Gaza, the abandonment of annexation plans in the West Bank, and genuine engagement in a two-state solution process.
This move comes amid growing pressure within the UK, as more than 220 MPs from various parties signed a letter calling for immediate recognition of the State of Palestine, while Labour Party MPs expressed frustration with the “slow official response.”
These developments coincided with France’s announcement of its intention to take a similar step around the same time, indicating increasing European coordination on the Palestinian issue.
In a recent official statement dated July 25, 2025, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced via his official account on platform X that Canada plans to recognize the State of Palestine during the UN meetings, in support of the two-state solution and to ensure peace and security for both Palestinians and Israelis alike.
